MY SKINCARE RITUALS

Over the years I have learned that daily skin care rituals are just as important (if not more important) than the products you use on top of it. I have always found that my skin is a reflection of what I put in my body and how I take care of it. I also believe the health of my mind and emotions are just as important because the mind and body are intrinsically connected.

Here are some simple skin care rituals that can make a big difference:

Hydrate: I drink at least 3 glasses of water in the morning, and continue drinking tons throughout the day. This keeps my skin fully hydrated! I like to infuse my water with ginger, lemon, or apple cider vinegar. I limit caffein to one coffee a day, after that I will have organic ginger/lemon tea, or green tea.

Eat: I eat clean whole foods and limit my intake of refined sugars, but at the same time I don't like to deprive myself, so if I really want to indulge in something I do in moderation. If I know I have an important shoot coming up I'll make clean eating more of a priority. But if theres one thing I've learned over the years it's that balance is key, and it's better to have a relaxed approach when it comes to food (and take your time to enjoy it!) rather than create more stress over being healthy, as that can be just as unhealthy. 

*I like to add Tumeric (anti-inflammatory), ginger, avocado, wheatgrass, spirulina, liquid chlorophyll and berries to my smoothies. Salmon, almonds, walnuts, spinach, kale, and brightly coloured fruits and veg are also great for glowing skin. 

Supplements: Every morning I take a probiotic and add a table spoon of apple cider vinegar to my water. I also take these supplements: fish oil, vitamin D, vitamin B12 and wear a topical vitamin C oil on top of my skin in the morning and/or overnight. 

Stress: Definitely affects my skin (and every other part of my life), so I try to do things that help me relax like taking a walk, doing yoga, having a hot epsom salt bath before bed, and reading a book or podcast. 

Sun Protection: I looooove the sun and if I had it my way I would cook in the sun all day long! BUT not without sun protection. My favorite is COOLA and Supergoop mineral sunscreen as I find they both go on super light and doesn't make me break out. Lip balms with sun protection in them are equally important!

At the end of the day just do your best with the time you have to take care of yourself and know that even having a conscious awareness of living a clean lifestyle can have a positive effect on the skin you're in. If you find you are having issues with your skin sometimes a hormone imbalance can be the cause in which case working with a naturopath can be the best way to get to the root of the issue.
